Madhya Pradesh: Professor Emeritus Not Appointed In Medical Colleges Despite DME Order

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Professor Emeritus has not been appointed in government medical colleges in the state despite an order issued by Directorate of Medical Education (DME) to this effect.

According to senior doctors and retired professors of medical colleges, government should appoint retired professors as it is beneficial for the students and no salary is paid to them.

Their experience should be used for medical college students. Professor Emeritus/emerita is the title bestowed upon eminent retired academician in recognition for their work and distinguished service.

DME had directed deans of government medical colleges and dental institutions to designate all re-employed faculty as Professor Emeritus.

Dr TN Dubey, neurologist and vice-chancellor of Madhya Pradesh Ayurvigyan Vishwavidyalaya (Medical Science University), Jabalpur, said, “ DME had issued order to designate all re-employed faculty as Professor Emeritus but no follow-up has been made by DME and concerning medical colleges in this matter.”

DME director Dr AK Shrivastava said, “No appointment has been made as Professor Emeritus in government medical colleges. If anyone is interested, he/she may apply to DME. No one appears interested in becoming Professor Emeritus.”
